I was fired from my job today for being transgender.

fuckyeahftms:

Hey fellas. Usually when I post here I’m in a relatively good mood, but today was rough.

It was the 2nd day of a new job, I informed management in beginning of Day 1 of my preferred name and pronouns and that I’m trans. It went really well and my supervisor was quite supportive.

Apparently my supervisor and coworkers were fine with it, but the HR representative, who I never even got to meet, was not.

They first had the person from my staffing agency contact me (instead of speaking to me personally) requesting that I not use the correct bathroom, because I might make people uncomfortable. When I asked him to please find out if there was a unisex bathroom in the building I could use (as I did not want to go to HR/my supervisor myself and make it a big deal) they informed him (and thus he informed me) that there is no unisex bathroom available and that I was no longer a good fit for the company.

When I contested that there was no issue, I would suck it up and use the wrong bathroom, they changed their tune to say that they didn’t interview “Aaron”, they interviewed “(legal name)”, and that I was “obviously” not the person I claimed to be.

What really disgusts me is that at 5:00pm, before I left, my supervisor was telling me how great I was doing, that I seemed like a really great fit and did so well with training, set me up my own desk and computer and told me when I came in tomorrow, I’d be on my own. At 5:40pm it was confirmed that they were not willing to work anything out, my “situation” made me an ill fit for the company, and they had already lined up someone else for my job.

It makes no difference that my skills, experience, and qualifications were the same, regardless of preferred name/pronouns. If I had requested to be called by a preferred traditionally feminine name, like say, a shortened version of my legal name or my middle name, I would still have my job.

There are no laws in the state of florida (or most other states) to protect transgender people from being terminated based on gender identity or expression. It was perfectly legal for them to fire me based solely on my trans* status.

For more information, please read the wikipedia article on the federal Employment Non-Discrimination Act, and get involved in helping to fight for its passing.

You can also sign this petition to tell local lawmakers to support ENDA.

If you’d like to help me personally, I have a merch shop on my page where I’ve been selling trans* pride stuff to help raise money for my transition, but those funds will now have to go to my family’s living expenses. Check it out and spread the word.

I can’t even.

Please, reblog this.

I realize I haven’t had the time to be very active on tumblr, and that I saw this two months ago. But, I meant to attempt to contact this person, because I read about this as a political announcement at work. And this guy Aaron should contact the ACLU and file charges against the company.

Please if you see this visit this link: http://www.aclu.org/affiliates

And I’m immensely sorry this happened, they are indeed campaigning and fundraising to implement ENDA in Florida currently. But it’s a tough battle as it is here. Good luck, and I hope you find a better higher paying job that will make them sorry they let you go.

SlutWalk: A Testimony By A Transgender Man →

clownyprincess:

DUDES, MEN, MALES, FELLAS, GUYS: I can not say this enough, it is YOUR responsibility to educate yourself on rape. It is YOUR responsibility to educate your friends on rape. It is your responsibility, just for accessing your privilege, to use it the best way you can.

If you believe in women’s rights. If you believe in feminism. If you believe women and men should be equal. Then I dare you to doubt yourself, I dare you to strip yourself of all your safety, I dare you to wear clothes that society will scrutinize you for. Wear something that will get you attacked. THEN recognize that there is nothing a woman can wear that WON’T get her attacked.

This is a truly amazing speech, I only wish that I could have been there to hear it. Just reading it I had the urge to cry, as someone that lived both as a man and woman, it’s definitely stunning to realize everything he brought to light about rape. Embarrassingly enough other than Jenny’s suggestion to Mark in The L Word. I’ve never heard a anyone express just how a man should act to fully understand how women are mistreated in so many ways.

Lesbians in Relationships with Trans* People. →

“I often feel—abruptly and painfully —that I am the wife in a heterosexual relationship, something I did not bargain for as a queer-identified person,” says Bolus. “Sometimes, it is challenging to accept all the implications of spending the rest of my life with a man. I have also felt some pain when I have gone out into the world with Marty, and we haven’t been recognized as queer, either by other gay or lesbian folks or even by straight people. I feel a lot of pride in being gay. I like being queer and visible and I miss that.”

This was indeed a very interesting article to read. I finally stumbled upon something that delved into some of the aspects I had questions about.

Texas may strip away transgender marriage rights →

Transsexual people are those who establish a permanent identity with the gender opposite to their biological sex. As most legal jurisdictions have at least some recognition of the two traditional genders at the exclusion of other categories.

The degree of legal recognition provided to transsexualism varies widely throughout the world. Many countries now extend legal recognition to sex reassignment by permitting a change of gender on the birth certificate. In a few, the legal aspects are directly tied to health care; i.e. the same bodies or doctors decide whether a person can go ahead, and the subsequent processes automatically incorporate both matters. — Wikipedia.org

Leave it to Texas to do something like that. If someone has gone through gender reassignment surgery and is identified by the state, even on their driver’s license as the opposite gender from which they were born. There shouldn’t be legal issues surrounding the bible belt’s delicate (but faulty) “christian” standings.

A transgendered woman gets beaten senseless in a McDonald’s just because she was trying to use the bathroom in Baltimore. Right in the middle of the restaurant, in front of everybody. No one would help her, and the employees encouraged the ones who were beating her. The woman had a seizure.  I’ve never seen something so terrible in my whole life. If you care at all, join the petition. It’s completely safe. Do not watch this video if you’re having a good day. Remember: We’re all humans. Love is love. Watch how this poor helpless woman gets almost killed just because she’s transgendered. One person can make a huge difference. Please reblog.

This is the type of thing that has made me lose faith in humanity.

No amount of ignorance, fear, or intolerance should warrant an attack like that. People really need to think about what if I was in those shoes? What if those were KKK members beating a black man/woman senseless simply for entering the restroom. Is this honestly how it is in other countries? I’m betting not. They have unisex bathrooms, where both sexes are forced to share whether they like it or not in some areas. Simply having a fucking penis (I’m not even sure if she got bottom surgery but you get the point) shouldn’t warrant an attack like that. I’m betting those bitches are slutty ass whores like the rest of the intolerant population.
